The second time I studied abroad was in Lyon, France during the Fall of my Junior year.
My studies during this semester were similar in the sense that, during my time in France, I decided to pursue a second major – in French.
However, it was different in the sense that I had significantly more course and had the opportunity to volunteer.
My semester in Lyon was much more intensive than my semester in London. It was an immersive experience and my overall comprehension of the French language improved significantly during this semester.
My courses during this semester included:
- Fourth Year French I
- Fourth Year French II
- French Conversation
- French Cuisine
- French Culture & Civilization: Getting to know Lyon Beyond the Walls
- Survey of French Literature I
I took significantly more courses during this semester – participating in a Language Intensive Program which consisted of 4 days of 4 hour classes during the week (not including electives such as French Cuisine, Beyond the Walls, and French Lit).

At the end of the semester, I was certified as a B2 in the French Language – which translates to high intermediate.
